Alfa Romeos Bring Italian Flair to Bignor Park

On 5th July, Bignor Park was delighted to welcome the Alfa Romeo Surrey Section of the Alfa Romeo Owners Club for their annual club members’ picnic — and what a sight it was.

A total of 42 members joined us for the day, arriving in a wonderful line-up of Alfa Romeos, from much-loved classics to more modern models, all proudly displayed on the lawn in front of the main house. Against the backdrop of Bignor Park, the cars looked entirely at home — elegant, characterful, and just a little bit dramatic.

The visit began with time to explore the gardens, which were looking especially lovely in the July sunshine. Members were then treated to a house tour by Lord Mersey, giving them a glimpse into the history and character of Bignor Park before settling down to enjoy their picnic together.

With picnic chairs, rugs, conversation and polished bonnets gleaming in the sunshine, the afternoon had a wonderfully relaxed feel. There was plenty of admiring, comparing and reminiscing among the cars — and perhaps the odd friendly debate over which Alfa had aged the best.

Ned Mersey, the owner of Bignor Park, is also an Alfista and was proud to tell them how, contrary to stereotype, his 159 has been far more reliable than any other car he has owned. Except for the air-conditioning.

We were delighted to receive such positive feedback from the group, who clearly enjoyed both the setting and the opportunity to gather somewhere peaceful, spacious and full of history.

It was a pleasure to host the Alfa Romeo Surrey Section for such a special club day. Their beautiful cars brought colour, character and a generous dash of Italian glamour to Bignor Park, and we very much hope they enjoyed their visit as much as we enjoyed having them.
