Bignor Park Estate is a privately owned historic parkland, nestling at the foot of the South Downs, within the South Downs National Park in West Sussex. Painted by Constable and the inspiration for beautiful poetry by its late eighteenth century Romantic writer Charlotte Smith, it has a fascinating history and its eleven acre garden hosts rare trees and flora.
The gardens and stables are hired out for weddings and events, with occasional house and garden tours. There are a collection of let cottages and barns, and our organic farming is conservation-driven, including wildflower meadow restoration, preserving Sites of Special Scientific Interest and a rare field cricket population, and creating wetland habitats.
Originally laid out in the early nineteenth century, the gardens have developed over the two hundred years since then to include formal box hedge gardens with herbaceous borders and a shrubbery featuring cedars of Lebanon, a temple and the extremely rare Lucombe Oak.
