Under the Tuscan Sun

Our visitors and guests often comment about the Italian aspect of Bignor Park. As far back as 1832, in the ‘History of the Western Division of the County of Sussex’ the Reverend Edmund Cartwright wrote ‘it is difficult to point out a spot where the scenery of Sussex appears to so much advantage…broad masses of woodland interspersed with rich meadows fill the intermediate space between Bignor Park and the river and give effect to the other parts of the landscape, which, upon the whole, have more the air of Italian distance than is usually to be met with in England’. Added to this, the dark green shutters, cypress trees framing the south façade, terracotta urns and roseate colour of the walls, known as ‘Terra di Siena’, might make you feel you are in Tuscany, not Sussex. Wedding couples looking for an historic wedding venue in West Sussex with an Italian or Mediterranean flavour choose to get married here for the unique blend of Sussex countryside with wide panoramas, neoclassical architecture and Italianate influences. Add to that some mouth-watering Mediterranean dishes from our chosen caterers, and freshly baked pizzas from a mobile pizza oven in the evening to fuel late night dancing, and it is surely La Dolce Vita!
