What a wonderful afternoon we had at the Village Fête & Dog Show at Bignor Park — a true celebration of countryside life, community spirit and traditional village fun in the heart of the South Downs.
Held on what turned out to be a very hot and sunny day, the fête brought together families, friends, stallholders, volunteers and visitors from across the local area. Sadly, due to the heat, the much-loved Dog Show had to be cancelled in the interests of keeping our four-legged friends safe and comfortable. However, there was still plenty to enjoy throughout the afternoon.
The beautiful grounds of Bignor Park were filled with stalls, homemade treats, games, refreshments and smiling faces. Petworth Town Band helped keep the atmosphere cheerful and relaxed, providing the perfect soundtrack to a quintessentially Sussex summer afternoon.
There was also plenty of traditional entertainment, with Morris dancing bringing colour, music and heritage to the day, while the fiercely fought Tug of War proved to be one of the afternoon’s great highlights. It was competitive, good-humoured, and exactly the sort of spectacle that makes a village fête so special.
Most importantly, the event was held in support of local charities and churches, and we are delighted to share that over £30,000 was raised for local churches — a fantastic achievement and a real testament to the generosity and hard work of everyone involved.
A huge thank you must go to the organisers, volunteers, stallholders, performers, visitors and everyone who helped make the day such a success.
The Village Fête at Bignor Park only comes around every two years, so we will have to wait a little while for the next one — but after such a memorable day, it will certainly be worth the wait.
